Congressman Henry Waxman ,

guest speaker at our March 17 WLADC

well attended meeting, covered the
complete
spectrum of today's hot

issues both local and global.

The Congressman gave his views

on  the Bush tax cuts, Republican

obstructionism, global weather change,

Iran and, locally, the Venice Post Office

and Santa Monica Airport..

At our February 9 club annual  WLADC meeting,
former Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis
was our keynote speaker. Our other guest was
State Assembly District 66 candidate Al Muratsuchi.

The Governor and former Presidential candidate in
1988 gave us his insightful  views in his relaxed
friendly and informal style rarely matched by any
of today's political figures.

The Governor's  major message which we don't hear often enough is to focus
on our winning in November. Little else matters considering the consequences
of a Republican controlled Washington.  The Governor is a major advocate for
grassroots politics. This means we need on the ground operations down to the
precinct level with face to face conversations with the voters. That's how we did it
in 2008 and how the Governor himself has won elections in his home state.

Indeed, one of the reasons we hold these events is to gather grassroots support.
This time, WLADC member Jim Kennedy gathered many sign-ups to do precinct
walking on behalf of our other guest Al Muratsuchi running for State Assembly in
District 66 vs. two Tea Bager Republicans.   Most of us met Al for the first time
as he brought us up-to-date regarding his race and his liberal resume and beliefs.

This race could be the one to give us the two-thirds majority in the Assembly we need to
pass a budget that could end the deficit and still support our needs with a fair tax
rate for the rich instead of the artificial low tax rates they now enjoy. Imagine the thrill
when Al is the projected winner to put us over the top.

On the topic of that other former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, Mr. Dukakis
reiterated that the Patient Protection Affordable Care Act (Obama Care to Fox viewers)
is indeed modeled after Mr. Romney's Massachusetts Healthcare Reform Act of 2006
despite what the now pandering Republican Governor says while begging to win right
wing  primary votes. The State now has over 95% of its citizens insured. However, after
leading the way, Romney did hedge his bets by vetoing two major components of the bill.
These vetoes were overridden by the legislature but gave us a preview of Romney's
style of politicking.

   Koch Brothers Exposed

   Place:  St. Bedes Espiscopal Church

3590 Grand View BL, Mar Vista

David Greenwald of Brave New Films presented Koch Brothers:Exposed on Nov.29
at St. Bedes Episcopal Church in Mar Vista.  He interspersed his comments between
film clips on different topics all related to the Koches.

Greenwald hit hard at the Koches for their financing of state and federaly elected
Republicans who attack Social Security, support voter supression, war profitiering

and dismantle polution control.

All are agreed that it is good to have Brave New Films making these films, but, during

Greenwald introduces himself and his body of work

the question and answer period, it was pointed out that Mr. Greenwald's work may not

translate into actually combating the Koch Brothers cause as we do not learn from

watching a Greenwald film what we can do about it.  The answer should be campaign

and VOTE!

Welcome Party for New Members

Time: 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
Place:  Home of Alan Bail, 11931 Lawler St. Mar Vista 90066

Over 25 new members attended our Meet and Greet despite rain

which usually keeps Angelenos at home. We asked current Board

members give their club experiences and what prompted them to join

our club. We now expect many new memberas to be active in the

2012 campaign and whatever else we do.

With this meeting's success, we will certainly be doing it again

before too long.
